Travel: Wilmington Day 2+3

Hey, y’all and welcome back to the last post in the vacation mini-series!

Today we’re going to be diving right back into our vacation by looking at what Caleb and I did on Day 2+3 with my padre! If you missed the other two posts I’ll link them HERE and HERE for your viewing pleasure.

Let’s get to it!

Saturday was our second day in Wilmington, the day of the family reunion, and also the day of Caleb and I’s 4th anniversary. We started our day off with walking along the boardwalk at Carolina Beach, taking some outfit pictures, then realizing we forgot to pay for our parking and returning to the car without getting to the beach.

At least we got this rad outfit photo though. You can get a full on look at the dress later in the post in the picture of me and my pops .

I decided to go for my denim wrap dress, tall green socks, white converse, and of course the camel colored sueded mini backpack.

After getting back to the car and being extremely thankful we hadn’t gotten a ticket we realized it was time for us to get a move on to the family reunion so reluctantly we got into the car and headed to the Golden Carol about 20 minutes away.

The man below was one of the highlights of the reunion for both Caleb and I. Uncle Charles. I can’t explain him because he’s a man you should all just meet for yourself. He has so many stories and the most ice blue eyes I’ve seen in all of my days.  ps. Caleb thinks that this is exactly how my dad is going to look when he’s Uncle Charles’s age.

The family reunion went so much better than I thought it was going to. I almost didn’t come on this vacation because I was so worried about the family reunion. This was the first time that I had seen my mom in about 4 or 5 years…and if you know the story/stories you know this was not fun or something I was looking forward to. It was really rough and hard and tough and all of those adjectives, but Caleb and I both got through it. I loved that my family got to meet Caleb after four years and that all of my aunts and uncles and cousins were so happy to see me and Caleb there. I think it was a bit of a shock for some of them. There were even people I hadn’t met before which I think is crazy considering we are related, but that’s the fun of these family reunions. After the family reunion we all headed to a little spot known as Snow’s Cut Park where the family hung out together a bit more and where Caleb and I said our final goodbyes to everybody.

Once we said our goodbyes Caleb, Dad, and I all tried to go to the beach, realized there was no parking on either 3 of the beaches, and so we headed straight for the For Fisher Aquarium!

This is the first picture Caleb took of Dad and I when we got to the aquarium because we have an old picture in the exact same spot that includes the lady who birthed me, my dad, my papa, my sister, and I. Yes our eyes are squinty, but we were as happy as ever (:

Now I’m just going to go ahead and throw all the pictures at you from the Fort Fisher Aquarium and once again would like to thank Caleb for the amazing photography! Make sure you follow his media account on instagram if you haven’t already @mcguiresmedia!

We had the most amazing time touring the aquarium and seeing all of the wonderful creatures. I loved sharing that experience with dad and Caleb. After leaving the aquarium tired and hungry we head back to the hotel dad had booked and decided to start looking for a good place to eat that was close by!

We ended up at P.T.’s Olde Fashioned Grille right across from out hotel and GOOD GOD that was such a brilliant decision. We all loved our food and had a brilliant time picking out what we wanted on our burgers. Dad and I went for the standard burger, but Caleb went with the Turkey and we all hardly spoke because the food was so good. I’m not exactly sure where all they have P.T.’s across America, but if you ever run into this spot it’s worth the try!

Upon finishing our delicious meal we decided we would head into downtown Wilmington and do some exploring before the ghost tour I had booked for us three that evening.

This is the outfit I decided on for the evening. Something quick, comfortable, and not too bad for walking the long distances of the ghost tour. My black and white stripped v-neck is thrifted from Goodwill and I paired it with my high waisted skinny jeans from Forever21. To finish it all off I chose, of course, my camel colored, suede, mini pack, and my white converse.

The ghost tour we went on was a bit of a bust. Caleb and I had previously gone on a ghost tour in Savannah and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life, however this one was a bit boring, lack luster, and none of the stories were all that scary or seemed to be real. There was one house we toured outside of that I do believe was very haunted, and that is the only story/event that made me somewhat enjoy the evenings tour. I was a bit upset because I had set my hopes so high based on the Savanah ghost tour and because we were doing all that walking with my old man and I could tell he wasn’t into it either. I actually ended up feeling pretty shit about it because I wanted it to be something really fun for my dad, Caleb, and I to do, but it didn’t turn out that way and that’s alright. All in all I don’t recommend Black Cat Ghost tours in Wilmington, NC. It was a bit of a waste of money and time in my eyes.

From there dad went back to the hotel to get some rest and Caleb and I went on the look out for some ice cream, but because it was so late we ended up at Arby’s because nothing else was open.

Let’s go ahead and hop on into Day 3. I don’t have much from this day because we were actually supposed to just wake up and go home, but Caleb and I decided to make another day out of our trip and spend some much needed quality time doing fun stuff!

The first stop we made was to the Battleship North Carolina. ALWAYS A MUST SEE WHEN GOING TO WILMINGTON. I think Caleb has a few more pictures than the ones I have below, but really we just spent time walking together, and taking in all the beauty, history, and hauntings of the ship. I will always recommend this adventure to anybody in the Wilmington area.

We walked around the ship for too long to say, and after being beat from the heat we decided it was time for some lunch so we headed over to Cracker Barrel because that’s what sounded yummy to us.

IT WAS SO GOOD. I had strawberry french toast with a side of bacon and hash brown casserole, and caleb went for the chicken and dumplings with mac and cheese and fried okra! It didn’t disappoint. Cracker Barrel never disappoints.

After Cracker Barrel we planned on heading back home but then we thought about it and we really wanted to hit up another arcade since we had such a good time in the one on the boardwalk our first night at Carolina Beach. We promptly took ourselves over to the mall in Wilmington were there was not only a brilliant arcade full of awesome games, but also a glow in the dark putt putt course that was all you can play for $8!!!

I really can’t explain how much fun I had with Caleb on that last day. Honestly, I’m getting a bit emotional thinking about it just because it was such a solid day for us. We had fun, played together, laughed, ate good food, and traveled all the way back home watching Christine and Elijah videos on YouTube because let’s not play….they’re absolutely hilarious.

Anyway, all in all we had a pretty great trip to Wilmington other than the fact that it was Memorial Day Weekend and we were unable to ever successfully get onto the beach or in the ocean. However, with that being said, all that we were able to accomplish was so much fun! I definelty recommend everybody take a trip to Wilmington at least once in their lives, but just make sure it’s not on a holiday weekend. (;

Thanks for sticking around to read all about the tiny vacation Caleb and I went on. I hope you enjoyed and will check back in soon to see what else I have up my sleeve when it comes to these posts! <3
